December 7, 2021 - Project Launch Press Release

The energy industry has undergone significant changes over the past decade. The main drivers of these changes have been the strengthening of climate awareness, the importance of energy supply security, and the intertwining and connecting development of information technology across industries. The world of energy production is gradually shifting from traditional, centralized, large energy production systems towards decentralized production and distribution. Renewable-based power plants, largely weather-dependent (typically wind and solar power plants), are increasingly present in the world’s energy mix. The characteristics of weather-dependent operation (uncertain production, limited controllability, etc.) pose significant challenges for the system operator responsible for the balance of electricity production and consumption and the stability of the system. Therefore, there is an increasing demand for the integration and optimized operation of solutions capable of regulating production-consumption imbalances arising from forecasting inaccuracies. Within the framework of its research and development project, ALTEO, with the professional support of the internationally recognized Alfréd Rényi Institute of Mathematics, is developing a highly automated, artificial intelligence-based, energy-informatics system capable of making independent production and economic decisions to control and optimize “smart” power plant electricity production, addressing these challenges. The successful implementation of the project can accelerate the spread of renewable-based power plants, improving the stability of the electricity system, enhancing supply security, and contributing to the creation of a climate-neutral economy.

The intensity of support is 46.93%.
